OFFICE OF COMPLIANCE RECOGNIZES PUBLIC SERVICE RECOGNITION WEEK

Washington, DC – In honor of Public Service Recognition Week, the Congressional Office of Compliance recognizes the exemplary work of legislative branch employees.

More than 30,000 legislative branch employees work on Capitol Hill and in district and state offices for elected Members of Congress and agencies, including the U.S. Capitol Police, the Library of Congress, the Office of the Architect of the Capitol, and the Congressional Budget Office.

“Thirty two years ago, we celebrated the first Public Service Recognition Week. Since then, we have set aside the first week in May to celebrate the unsung heroes who quietly serve this country with commitment, purpose, dignity, and passion,” said Susan Tsui Grundmann, Executive Director of the Office of Compliance.

“Public service is often a calling,” said Grundmann. “I see it every day in the legislative community, from those who support and maintain the Capitol grounds, to the analysts and staffers at CBO and GAO, the historians at LOC, and the Capitol Police that protect us throughout our work day.”

The Office of Compliance is a non-partisan, neutral, and independent office established to administer and enforce safety laws and workplace rights in the legislative branch, much like the U.S. Departments of Labor and Justice, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission do for the private sector and executive branch.

“At the OOC, our mission is to enforce important laws and protections afforded to legislative branch employees by their employer – the United States Congress,” Grundmann said. “We are proud of our mission, and the accomplishments of our hard-working legislative colleagues. We salute them this week and all year long.”
